Welcome to the ETHS '58 Class Website

This is the newly designed and updated web site for the ETHS class of '58.  There is still some construction in progress, but you can get a feel for what's there and what's to come.  You can navigate this site in two ways, depending on whether you're viewing it on a mobile device or a PC/Laptop.  Depending on the width of your window or physical screen, you'll either see, between the page title and the top of the picture of ETHS, a horizontal list of pages on the site,, a series of stacked horizontal short lines, or, a column of dots.  Clicking on the lines or the dots will give you a choice of the same pages you'd see if they appeared as text. Select the page you want to see by clicking on its name.

NOTE: NEW EVENT!
Since we sent your original 60th Reunion Invitation, we’ve been able to add a special tour of ETHS to our many weekend events.  The school is officially closed during most of August, and during our 4 day Reunion weekend there will be minimal staff at ETHS.  Some areas of the school may be off limits due to construction.  HOWEVER, David Futransky, the Exec. Dir. of Alumni Relations, has agreed to do an informal tour for up to 20 people at 2:00 on Thursday, the 16th of August. If you are interested in seeing the halls and classrooms, the cafeteria, trying to find your old locker….sign up now!  We do have to give Mr. Futransky a list of the people who will be on the tour, so please Email Barb to get your name on the list. Limit of 20 people, so sign up soon! (Barbara.Lamm@comcast.net)

Following is the official invitation

..........................................................................

Fellow Classmates, Alums, Reunion Fans and Lloyd Michaels,

The years were 1954 to 1958.  Our parents and grandparents had survived the Great Depression and two world wars.  Around us things were turning hopeful, and the nation was blossoming with new growth, new technology, and a general feeling of enthusiasm. Young families were buying homes, flashy new cars were appearing, and a relatively new home appliance, called television, was becoming common. The joys of being a teenager included new music, new styles of dance, and a feeling of independence. Go back for a moment to that happy world of white sport coats and pink carnations,

We were blessed to be growing up in a beautiful town beside a beautiful lake and attending a high school ranked in the top ten of high schools in the country.  And when we weren’t studying, we were busy having fun!  Do you still remember those nights at the Plant Room, the Wildkit and Northwestern football weekends, John Galloway making his break-away runs, or Art Schwarm feeding the ball to George Jozwik for another Evanston basket with Mr. Bunn grinning in the cheering section?  While we were living those events we were making friendships that would last a lifetime. It’s hard to believe that was all happening sixty years ago.

Fortunately, from August 16th to 19th you have a chance to relive those days. We hope you will join us in Evanston to share those memories, while you still can, with the friends who have meant so much.

This is your official invitation to the 60th Reunion of the ETHS Class of 1958.

Hospitality Suite at the Hyatt
Everyone, including those not staying at the Hyatt, is welcome to come to meet old friends, hang out, catch up, tell stories, laugh, joke and relax in our hospitality suite. There will be a year book and books from all our previous Reunions as well as the ETHS directory from ten years ago. Big screen TV coverage for Sox and Cubs games and the PGA Wyndham Classic. This is your center for information about the group activities and last minute arrangements or changes. We’ll have fresh coffee, tea, night caps “of sorts,” and other refreshments. And, thanks to Gary Wandrey who has agreed again to be our Hospitality Host, the suite will be open most of the time from Wednesday evening to mid-day on Sunday, 9 AM until “whenever.” An Open/Close schedule will be posted on the door, or call Gary, 707-570-7198.

Evening Transportation Information
There will be cash bars at all our evening events, plus wine with dinner on Saturday. Our Thursday and Friday evening events are within easy walking distance of the Evanston Hyatt and Holiday Inn but some people may still be driving, especially on Saturday evening to Glencoe. Anyone planning to take advantage of the cash bars, and/or the wine at dinner on Saturday, might want to consider carpooling with a Designated Driver or using Uber or Lyft.  Round trip cost from the Hyatt in Evanston to Skokie Country Club will be about $12-$20/person if 4 share a ride. A list of parking facilities in downtown Evanston is attached. Those who are driving on Saturday evening may park in the Club lot or on the street.  Please drive carefully!

Attendance Guessing Contest
Some of us on the committee have been guessing the total number of classmates and guests who will sign up for at least one reunion event. Would you like to join in the fun? Send your guess to the Reunion Committee, eths58reunion@comcast.net. The person with the closest guess will be “glorified” at the Saturday banquet, and their name will be included in the wrap-up article we send to The Kit after the reunion. No, we can’t guarantee they will print your name, but we will include it!
